Don Jamieson interview

A Life Under Iron Fist:
The Don Jamieson Interview

The comedian and co-host of That Metal Show talks to Dr. Music about his love of all things hard rock and heavy metal.

Living in the pop mainstream climate of today can be a very difficult thing for fans of heavy metal. Old hardcore metal guys need an outlet. They need a few friends to talk about Sabbath, Priest, and Maiden with. Thanks to the VH1 Classic network and the
That Metal Show
series, metalheads have had a forum to share their passions for all that is hard rock and heavy metal for 13 seasons. And, with the announcement of Geddy Lee of Rush and John Petrucci of Dream Theater for the premiere episode of a 14th season, it seems that an end is nowhere in sight
Much of the appeal of That Metal Show is the loose and friendly atmosphere that’s created on the set by hosts Eddie Trunk, Jim Florentine, and Don Jamieson. The chemistry between these guys is warm and welcoming. These are the guys you want to hang out with when you’re having a few beers and listening to a few tunes.

An aging metalhead like myself jumped at the chance to talk metal with Don Jamieson. Jamieson is a casual, “regular” guy that you immediately feel comfortable with. He’s an accomplished comedian that’s performed on some of the largest stages in the world. He’s an Emmy winner. He’s a co-host on the most successful series in VH1 history. And best of all, he’s just an all around cool dude.

In this interview of just over 20 minutes, I caught up with Don as he was driving around by the Jersey shore. You’ll hear us talk about our love of metal music, and Don tells us how he got into metal, who his dream guest for the show is, who his favorite band of all time is, and much more. So hop in Don Jamieson’s car with us! Let’s hang out and talk hard rock and heavy metal!
